Your question

Why does a website sometimes show an old version?

Explain it like I'm 16

Your browser or another server may be using a cached copy. A cache keeps reusable data nearby so it does not have to be downloaded again every time.

A real-world example

A cafe prints menus in advance to save time. If the prices change but yesterday’s menus remain on tables, customers see old information even though the kitchen has the new prices.

Common misunderstanding

Seeing an old image does not prove the upload failed. The fresh image might exist while an older copy is still being served.
