What does DNS actually do?
Explain it like I'm 16
DNS helps your device find the server behind a website name. You remember a name such as example.com; computers use network addresses to reach the right destination.
A real-world example
Think of looking up a shop in a directory before travelling there. A wrong directory entry can send you to the wrong place even if your transport works perfectly.

Common misunderstanding
A DNS problem is not always an internet outage. Your connection might work while particular website names fail to resolve.
